The Spectacle

The quote that I related to the most in The Society of the Spectacle, by Guy Debord is "The spectacle is not a collection of images; rather, it is a social relationship between people that is mediated by images"(#4). I related to this quote the most because this can relate to the social relationship people have with each other based on the what they are doing to help the planet. For example, I am a vegetarian and I recycle.. I am a recycling vegetarian. For this reason, I can form a relationship with others that are like me based on our common ground of being recycling vegetarians.

For this blog post, I wanted to get back to relating my paintings to what we are doing in class, especially for this post because it is a topic that I feel is important. Below is an abstract painting of the Earth that I did this week, this painting looks really messy and chaotic, you almost cant tell the difference between the background and the Earth. With pollution being so out of control, the oceans look like they are garbage disposals. The layers that I painted on Earth represent the layers of damage that we are doing to our planet.

These images were taken at the WWII: eye of the storm exhibit. This is actual garbage taken from a body of water in the meadowlands.
