“The spectacle is not a collection of images; it is a
social relation between people that is mediated by images.” – The Society of the Spectacle.
"In order to build trust among ourselves, we must begin right now to train ourselves to become trustworthy" - Adrian Piper
I chose Adrian Piper’s “The Probable Trust Registry: The Rules of the Game #1-3”. This was an
interactive presentation done that allowed visitors to sign contracts that aligned
their personal/ethical interests with the statements on the corresponding wall.
One of its purposes was to build trustworthiness in oneself and reflect on our
own morals and commit to good, ethical ones. Having a physical contract could
strengthen a person’s moral conduct and lead to a more positive future. Adrian
Piper works revolve around individual identity and other philosophical concepts.
My inspired work comes from something we can all relate to (some more than
others). This really raises the question of how many people would actually sign
this contract and commit to it if there were consequences to breaking it. I think
it’s laughable at first but would you sign this contract the lasts your
lifetime?
