Guy Debord made some very poignant that are still relevant today. Over 40 years ago he discussed how society was obsessed with its image and I can only imagine that it has gotten worse. In this age of social media and technological overload, it is not uncommon to see people glued to their phones or TVs or computers all day long. It is simply a sign of the times we live in. He wrote "Though separated from what they produce, people nevertheless produce every detail of their world with ever-increasing power. They thus also find themselves increasingly separated from that world. The closer their life comes to being their own creation, the more they are excluded from that life." Today, our image is our main product and most young adults today present only the best of their imagined or presented "image." Thus, we get a façade and never see the reality behind the image.

The art show WW11 inspired me to create this selfie. The amount of pollution that we create is massive and we are literally drowning in it. We have become plastic creating machines that look out into nature and want to expand and exploit and consume all; sort of like a horde of locusts. Here, the bagged head is peering into nature, just about encroached on it. This is like how our landfills and and islands of trash encroach on nature and the natural.
