Home is Where I Feel Like Myself

My Grandparents, My Parents, and I (Family Tree) 1936

For this week's assignment, I decided to take inspiration from a Frida Kahlo painting entitled "My Grandparents, My Parents, and I" from 1936. I also took a lot of inspiration from a painting by artist Natasha Sazonova. In both of these paintings, Frida Kahlo's family is shown. I wanted to show not only my family, but my friends. The tree in the middle represents the fact that it is like a family tree and the branches are connected to the images of my family, friends, and a photo that represents travel. Home to me is the people I am with because I feel comfortable and happy around these people. It is where I feel like myself. I also added in an image that I took on a plane (bottom right) because I would even say places that I'm not from feel like home. For example, Ecuador. My mom is from Ecuador and whenever I visit I feel like I belong there. The top right image was taken in Ecuador and I'm around all my cousins. The bottom center image is of me in my living room. At a very basic level that is where I can say home is also. I am by myself or even with family sometimes. But that is somewhere I always feel like myself, too.
