Selfie

  • I did my selfie as a homage to Andy Warhol and his type of pop art but with myself as the concept. His work on Marilyn Monroe was my main inspiration as I tried to copy the dual tone and multi-image frame that he has in mind. I made it so that the different images were varying shades from red to yellow to green to blue. Also, the colors are set up such that they make the eye move in a counterclockwise direction as they examine the entire set up of the picture.
  • On the readings, I found the section on dress and deportment as being very interesting and important. The quote "Am I what others see or as I think of myself?" is one of the best that I pulled out because it drives home the point that there is no real set of philosophical ideas that can encapsulate "what is the self" because the self is made up of both the inner and the outer reactions. Also, the quote "we need the banality which we find in the first instant of disclosure because it grounds us in reality." where we see that there needs to be some type of set idealism that can first be set before one can make any more concrete ideas.
  • The documentary was very interesting because Warhol's life has been almost like a novella. He grew up dirt poor and died a very rich and successful man. Even though he was not the most average or social of people, he found himself a close circle of friends and supports with whom he could share rapport. Definitely one of the most intriguing characters in art. This is all not mentioning the profound effect he had on art itself and the way that we can classify "art."
