Andy Warhol Inspiration

 For this assignment, I made three different portraits based off of my list of Andy Warhol themes. My three themes consists of “self image”, “pop culture’”, and “product”. These portraits are inspired by his Marilyn Monroe portoirt, following the same collage style.  

Self Image 2018

For “self image”, I used a picture of myself displaying multiple emotions such as happy and sad. Warhol uses a lot of repetition in his work, my goal was to replicate it the same way, but I wanted to incorporate my own style by adding different expressions because in Warhol’s prints each image is displaying the same expression. 

Pop Culture 2018

For “pop culture”,  I used a picture of Kim Kardashian, arguably Kim Kardashian is the modern day Marylin Monroe. The reason for saying that because Kim Kardashian represents the a modern day celebrity. Whatever she does she gets attention for being very sexual and during Marylin Monroe’s prime everything that she did was very sexual. Kim Kardashian represents new Hollywood. This portrait I replicated his original Marylin portrait. 

Product 2018

For “product”, I used a picture of a bottle of Budweiser. Budweiser is a well known brand. I have it set in collage style similar to Warhol’s, but I inverted two out of the four images. I inverted them because, I wanted to show the dark side of alcohol, displaying how our society promotes products that are not always good for us. While at the same time, the other two are regular color showing the fun party side they promote.
