| Inspired by Ana Mendieta |
I made my selfie based on Ana's photographs. I noticed that even though her work seemed odd, she tried to connect with the earth, experiences people go through especially women and universal truths. It made me envision the aspect of mother earth. A few weeks ago we celebrated women's day and I feel women symbolize mother earth and Ana was able to depict that in her work. We have gone through or are vulnerable to abuse, pain heart break and more. Despite all that, we are beautiful inside and out and still offer care and compassion to those in need of it. In my selfie I used this technique through the use of my face that seems to be in a dark sky and green marshes to represent nature and the flower to show delicacy and vulnerability.
