Andy Warhol |
Andy Warhol is widely known as a leading figure in the pop art movement. While I find his iconic art pieces (32 Campbell's Soup Cans (1962) and portraits of Marilyn Monroe) great, I was immediately interested in his artwork entitled "Ingrid Bergman (as herself)." Ingrid Bergman is a Swedish film actress. Warhol was obsessed with consumer culture, celebrities, and mechanical reproduction. I believe this artwork has all three in one. I was really fascinated with the white outlining of Bergman's features. It highlighted her feminine features. I was also fascinated with the way Warhol chose a color scheme that worked perfectly and wasn't too harsh for my eyes. I thought it would be a challenge to try to make a similar reproduction of Warhol's reproduction. I tried to tweak the symmetry of the colored shapes to fit my body instead of exactly copying Warhol.
