| Luna Llena Pedestal |
The moon, flowers, and earth have always represented my personality and character. My final project is a representation of myself to society as a sculpted piece. Using a Styrofoam ball, magazine, soil, fake flowers, spray paint, glue, a mason jar, and some string my master piece was able to come to life. Originally it was meant to be a flat piece of paper in the shape of a tree, crescent, or outline of my head but those options appeared to be basic. With the inspiration of our professor, Ana Mendieta, readings from class, and the gallery exhibitions we visited my ideas were inspired based off of natural elements, and self identity. With the moon placed on its pedestal, my hopes are that this piece tells the audience about my personality, and the true appreciation for mother nature and its contributions to our lives. Without the Earth we would have no home and humanity would cease to exist. Every piece of the project is suppose to symbolize a significant meaning or person in my life. Spirituality, energy, and meditation have contributed to the development of my persona and interests. A full moon represents change, tranquility, and emotions that also symbolize nature. The moon in my art piece is represented by a perfect round ball covered in magazine papers and articles to represent my hobbies, passions, and inspirations. Roses are one of my particular passions because they represent my sister, but white flowers mean purity, loyalty, and honesty to me. White flowers can reflect great moments such as weddings and love, but they are also commonly used at funerals to represent sympathy. In comparison to our midterm project, this piece is more centralized on my personal passions and interests. The mid term project was created to bring awareness about feminist topics, gender roles, and women issues in society. This piece does not include my features at all, but defines me perfectly. The changes in this piece from the last were influenced by new artists we were introduced too, and the desire to make something different from my previous work.Overall, my project is symbolic to significant people in my life, self-identity, the Earth, and nature.
